Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the lack of public consultation by the Queensland State Government on the design of the Northern Access Intersections Upgrade, near Black River, Townsville. The design of the project – which is meant to enhance safety - is inappropriate, not fit for purpose, and may lead to further and continued crashes resulting in serious injury or death.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to immediately pause construction on the Northern Access Intersections Upgrade project to conduct full and proper consultation of the residents of Black River and surrounds, and other road users, and find an alternate design – which may include, but not be limited to, reduced speed limits, an overpass or traffic signals – which is approved by a majority of residents and road users.
