TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that Redland City Council has been aware since 1999 that Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI) residents are at heightened risk of mosquito-borne disease, that SMBI supports numerous flora and fauna of significance at state, national and international level, and that runoffs from onsite septic systems exceed acceptable levels by Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council standards of nutrient and sediment pollution, but still have not provided necessary reticulated sewerage as requested by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to enforce provision of reticulation of sewerage to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands in accordance with advice from the EPA and the Department of Environment and Heritage, to fulfil obligations to the Public Health Act 1932, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and Environment Protection Act 1994 and others.
