Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the Far North’s need for a Cairns University Hospital. If the new facility is not operational by 2025, the health, education and employment prospects of thousands of Far North Queenslanders, already cruelled by COVID-19, will pay the price. If nothing is done hospital capacity will fall 70 beds short within two years.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to ensure a Cairns University Hospital and for the government to commit $165m to the project: $5m for the preliminary and detailed business cases and funds for the shortfall in funding to buy land in 2020-21, $60m to help optimise facilities and $100m to build the Cairns Health Innovation Precinct within 2022-25.
