The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the loss of the South Burnett Nurse Navigator role which focused on Cancer Care. This had been a valued, tailored service operating for nearly two years. Unfortunately, the rate of people dying from cancer in Murgon, Cherbourg and Wondai is 15% above the national average, and in Kingaroy and Kumbia it is 9% above average. At the time of closure, the service had 76 active clients with 10-12 new referrals each month. Feedback from cancer patients indicated this was an appreciated and important service which helped people navigate the health system during their cancer journey.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to consider the appointment of a Specialist Cancer Nurse role to the South Burnett.
