Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the intersection of Grays Rd and Eumundi-Noosa Rd in Doonan has been a point of community concern for many years now and we are aware that the Department of Transport and Main Roads has conducted a review of this area. Motorists entering Eumundi Noosa Road frequently express that they are 'taking their lives into their own hands' as they negotiate two streams of traffic travelling 80 kmph, and consider an accident to be 'only a matter of time'.

After a number of meetings with Local and State Government representatives the Sunshine Coast Regional Council acted quickly to remediate Grays Road at the intersection and the balance of works now required rest with the State Government.

This petition is supported by residents of Grays Road; parents and staff of Noosa Pengari Steiner School; business owners and operators within the Doonan trading precinct currently outside of the 60 kmph zone.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to:

  • Extend the 60 km zone from the United Petrol Station, to Beddington or Duke Rd as a matter of urgency.
  • Create an acceleration lane for cars turning left into Eumundi-Noosa Rd, from Grays Rd.
  • Create a turning lane for cars turning left into Grays Rd from Eumundi Noosa Road.
