The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the issue of criminals who continue to offend in in our community. Chinchilla is a community where families are afraid and constantly on edge. A community where parents are cautious of taking their children to use the local parks, for fear of being struck by a stolen vehicle. Families and businesses are tired of paying extra for insurance and repairs on items they worked hard to obtain because they are being stolen and damaged. There is constant anxiety about noises outside at night. Businesses and residents of Chinchilla are forced to purchase costly security systems to protect their investments and homes where they should be safe. The drain on the community is not only a financial one, but an emotional and mental one. As a result of this, it is affecting the overall health of the people of Chinchilla and the surrounding areas.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to amend the law to: 

1. Enforced community service, with no suspended sentences and increased hours to complete.
2. Fines and charges for parents/guardian to ensure accountability of young criminal offenders.
3. Stronger powers for Queensland police to apprehend criminal suspects.
4. Curfews for offenders with the use of tracking devices (ankle bracelets).
5. Frequent random drug and alcohol testing of offenders and fines/charges made if traces are found in their system.
