The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the State Government’s proposed M2M cycleway at Alexandra Headland fails to consider the needs of all beach visitors to the area, downgrading safe beach access by removing carparks east of Alexandra Parade and introducing a high-speed cycleway in conflict with pedestrians and cars which creates new safety issues.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the State Government to: 1) scrap the draft M2M plan and start again; 2) commit to keep carparks east of Alexandra Parade for the safety of beach users; 3) use the M2M funding to improve foot paths for cyclists and pedestrians; and 4) consult fully with all beach user groups to get the balance right to improve safety for all users; and 5) improve the natural environment with better landscaping rather than metal fences.
