Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House a dangerous stretch of the Bruce Highway at Black River which has become an unacceptable safety risk for motorists in the area. This approximately half-a-kilometre section includes the Black River bridge and has been the site of several serious and fatal accidents over the years, exacerbated by a 100km/h speed limit. On either side of this section, the road has been patched up to include staggered intersections and a one metre wide break between either sides of the single lane highway. These then bottleneck together where it remains at the 100km/h speed limit with narrow width, heavy traffic, a slight incline and a curve.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to fast track an improved design and construction of this section of the road and temporarily lower the speed limit to 80km/h until the road safety improvements are completed, to minimise the risk of future motor accidents.
