Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the response to Petition 3282-20 by the Minister for Police failed to address the points raised in the petition. Suppressors do not silence firearms they only help to protect the hearing of the shooter. Your petitioners believe that reclassifying firearm suppressors to Category A will provide access to suppressors by shooters of many different backgrounds and licence types and will provide a safer environment for shooters with less potential for damage to hearing. Suppressed firearms still go ‘bang bang’ loudly and not ‘pew pew’ quietly as portrayed in 1980’s Hollywood Movies. Your petitioners do not believe suppressed firearms increase the risk to public safety.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to reconsider reclassifying firearm suppressors to Category A.
