Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that prior to the closure of the Millmerran Medical Centre the Cecil Plains township had access to a Doctor on a one day weekly basis and a Nurse Practitioner on one other day of the week. The greater Cecil Plains Area has approximately 1200 residents who now have to travel a round trip distance of 80 kms to Dalby, Millmerran or Toowoomba for a Doctor’s consultation. Subsequently Medical Practices in those towns are under pressure to see our residents in need of medical aid. In some cases residents can’t get an appointment for weeks and if they do get one at Millmerran there is every chance that they will get turned away as there is no Doctor; they are otherwise occupied at the Hospital or are overbooked. Residents who don’t have transport and are not covered by a Care package program must organise someone to take them and sometimes that doesn’t work. Previously Elizabeth Waugh RN was our Nurse Practitioner, Liz is currently employed by Queensland Health and is a valuable, trusted and well-respected member of our community. We would like nothing better than to see her back in this position. Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service have a strategic plan for 2020-2024 but something in place is needed now not in four years.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to reinstate medical service to that of a Doctor or at least a Nurse Practitioner at the Cecil Plains Medical Clinic.
