Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the Gladstone Region is home to 63,000 people, has an estimates Gross Regional Product of $4.77 billion and is forecast to grow to a population of over 100,000 people by 2030.

The Gladstone Region has been significantly affected by the recent closure of services from the Mater Private Hospital and the low investment over many decades in Gladstone Hospital infrastructure that has not kept up with the growing demands of the community and these compounding factors contribute to the difficulty the region has in attracting and retaining specialist and GP services.

The residents of the Gladstone region acknowledge the recent expenditure on the new emergency department at the Gladstone Hospital however feel strongly that other services of the Gladstone Hospital are lacking and in need of urgent attention.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to urgently consider and expedite upgrades to the Gladstone Hospital to include a minimum of four operating theatres, more hospital beds, the incorporation of an Intensive Care Unit and any other necessary upgrades to generally increase the Gladstone Hospital's ability to deliver consistent level 4 services to the growing needs of the community.
