Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that every wet season the road connections between Cooktown and Mareeba/Cairns are closed on multiple occasions due to flooding which create massive personal, and business, transport expenses and losses.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take all actions necessary to cause the fast track of upgrades to the existing infrastructure enabling the following bridges to be passable at all times: Spear and Rifle Creek (Mt Molloy), North Laura River bridge, the McLeod River bridge and causeway (15kms north of Mt Carbine) and the Little Annan bridge (25kms south of Cooktown), the latter two, notorious black spots where deaths have occurred.
