Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that with increasing population on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands there is pressure to find alternatives to vehicle parking for islanders at Redland Bay. Car parking is planned to include a 1500 car capacity multi-level car park at Weinam Creek and at Moore's Farm. Moore's Farm is not suitable for parking. Part of it is susceptible to flood and planning needs to consider a predicted 800mm sea level rise by year 2100. It is too distant from the ferry (up to 800 metres) for many to walk especially the aged and infirm. Multi-level car parking is not suitable as many islanders cannot be expected to pay premium parking fees as they need to park for extended periods of time.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to support the development of a Russell Island toll-bridge as a Market-Led Proposal (MLP). This would be built in a "southern corridor" between Rocky Point Russell Island and Woongoolba, a distance of 1300 metres. Vehicles would cross by barge accessing temporary ramps constructed between these two locations as soon as can be done until a bridge is constructed. This will alleviate the pressure of parking at Redland Bay and give Russell Islanders convenience of parking at home. There would also be no need for a costly multi-level car park at Redland Bay. We draw the House's attention to a related petition no. 2931-18 tabled on 15/05/2018.
