The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the concerns of the residents of the Pebble Beach Retirement Village with the Health and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018, in particular, the proposed amendments to the Retirement Villages Act 1999 to include mandatory purchase of unsold freehold units by the Scheme Operator.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House that the Retirement Villages Act not be amended to include freehold tenure as such an amendment could have the unintended consequence of causing undue and potentially significant financial hardship.
