The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the need to bring targeted anti-bullying education to the fore and ensure that primary school students are instilled across the curriculum with values and behavioural expectations that prevent bullying while also being equipped with the ability and resilience to handle bullying situations in the school and broader social situations.

Your petitioners, therefore request the House to bring to the attention of the Government our submission that it should:

1.   Immediately introduce anti-bullying education which provides primary aged students with the knowledge on how to handle emotions and feelings, problem solving skills, the art of positive criticism, skills to embrace empathy and the understanding of body language, enabling children to assist in solving bullying situations by preventing bullying and/or influencing the response of bullied children towards bullies;
2.   Ensure that this initiative includes at least one annual combined parenting and children’s educational program directed towards reducing bullying and achieving other objectives outlined above.
