The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that since the closure of small independent grocery store in Mission Beach we now have the ridiculous situation where a major tourist destination has no food store open on Sundays arid Public Holidays. Our large number of tourist visitors, as well as locals, need to have the ability to buy food and other supplies at these times. The economic benefit to the town is obvious and the store itself claims that they would increase employment with additional opening hours. As our town expands and tries to recover from many years of sluggish growth and natural disasters we request an urgent review of the prohibition on Woolworths opening on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Your petitioners therefore request the House that consideration be given to permitting Woolworths in Mission Beach to open on Sundays and Public Holidays and grant exemption to the present laws of no new applications be granted in country areas till 2022.
