TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of Electors of the Division of Cook draws to the attention of the House that rural and remote areas in our shire has a serious need for respite care facilities in Cooktown. The need for our elderly to travel a 600 kilometre return journey to Cairns is highly stressful and critical to the health and wellbeing of those who need care and their careres and families. The cost to the taxpayer for this must be astronomical.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to consider this matter as a high priority and to support us in obtaining land to build a premise or access to a suitable premise.
