TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need for removal of the proposed amendment to the Moreton Bay Regional Planning Scheme which refers to the inclusion of a connection road between Greensill Road and Leitchs Road Sth, Albany Creek, identified as a proposed amendment to the Road Hierarchy Overlay Map.

A connection road:

  • provides local residents with no benefit to improved access to major arterial roads, transport corridors or local services.
  • will significantly impact the biodiversity of the local freshwater ecosystem of Sandy Creek and larger freshwater systems including the South Pine River and Albany Creek. This area provides a critical corridor for koalas and is home to numerous native fauna and flora including the Tusked Frog (identified as vulnerable by Department Environment & Heritage), platypus, echidna, bandicoots and over 200 identified bird species. Road construction and construction of a bridge across Sandy Creek will result in loss of vegetation cover, greenspace and habitat destruction, creek bank and waterway degradation.
  • will not improve opportunities for local residents, native fauna and flora to harmoniously Live, Grow, Sustain and Connect now or in the future (Shaping SEQ,2017).

Your petitioners therefore request the House to approve and action in a timely manner the:

- Removal of the proposed amendment to the Moreton Bay Regional Planning Scheme to include a connection road between Greensill Road and Leitchs Road Sth, Albany Creek.

- Maintenance of ‘local collector road’ status for Greensill Road and Leitchs Road Sth on the Road Hierarchy Overlay Map.
