TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of electors of the Division of Surfers Paradise draws to the attention of the House regarding excessive noise emitted from the number of cars and motorcycles involved in illegal street racing while travelling along the Gold Coast
Highway at Macintosh Island is causing undue stress and danger to the residents of Main Beach, Paradise Waters and Surfers Paradise.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to:

a Increase the Police presence by the use of marked and unmarked vehicles on a regular basis with the aim to reduce the speed of vehicles and motorcycles thereby substantially reducing the noise emitted from motorcycles, and,

b Install a permanent speed camera on the Northbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway at Macintosh Island to maintain the speed limit of vehicles in this region, and

c Increase the Police numbers generally on the Gold Coast, particularly in the Traffic Branch, to reduce the rampant red light running and general disregard of the road rules.
