The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the impending closure of the cross-town pathway over the North Coast Line that has served the town of Pomona safely for more than a century. We believe the alternatives being offered to cross from one side of town to the other by foot or bicycle will result in poorer, not improved, public safety levels.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call upon Queensland Rail to prove the relative safety of crossing the railway via the Reserve St crossing point and adjacent roads, versus the existing path. We desire that the existing path remain operational, with the addition of safety features consistent with the applicable national standards. This should be achieved in a way that maintains connectivity to the proposed new Pomona Railway Station, and in order to retain the walkability and character of our historic town.
