TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the confusion and commercial disadvantage caused to the business community, interstate travelling public and public at large when some states on the east coast of Australia advance and retard their clocks in the months of October and April respectively each year so as to embrace what is referred to in legislation as 'Summer Time'.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to take the necessary steps to prevail upon their counterparts in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory to:

• abandon 'Summer Time' on a permanent basis.
• join with Queensland in altering the appropriate legislation in each of their jurisdictions to permanently advance Australian Eastern Standard Time by 30 minutes so that the relevant clauses refer to Standard Time in each of their jurisdictions as being: '10.5 hours in advance of Co-ordinated Universal Time'.
