The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that funding needs to be allocated for a multi-purpose hall for Kirwan State High School.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to allocate funding to Kirwan State High School for a multi-purpose hall.  Kirwan State High School is the largest school in Queensland, second only to Brisbane. The students at Kirwan have higher risk of skin cancer due to being in the tropics, yet have no shelter under which to gather for assembly.  We need to address ageing infrastructure of the school also, a number of the buildings are no longer fit for purpose. When performing large gatherings for events such as graduation, a large number of students and parents are unable to attend due to the lack of a facility large enough.

Kirwan State High School P&C is seeking community support to develop a community hall on the school grounds with the purpose of addressing all of the above issues and developing stronger community ties and a community hub that can be self-sustaining. Our students should be able to develop free of the elements and we should be able to grow our community in Kirwan.
