The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the current disastrous impact of unacceptable levels of plastic waste reaching Queensland waters. Marine life, birds and natural habitats are dying under the weight of discarded plastic; this situation is unacceptable and can only properly be addressed and coordinated by authoritative and immediate practical action by the Queensland Government. A 'Plastic Border Patrol' will be a living barrier helping to save our environment and its creatures from the devastating effects of the current overwhelming plastic tsunami.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to direct the Queensland Government to establish and fund a permanent Plastic Border Patrol (Water Margin Rangers) who will perhaps be attached to and managed by local Queensland Coastal Councils.
