The petition of Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House to the systemic failure of the Families Department and other instruments of Government associated with child welfare to protect children from abuse. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to resolve to request the Government to establish as a matter of urgency a Royal Commission into all forms of child abuse in Queensland with particular reference to the failure of the Families Department and other instruments of Government to protect children in care. The Royal Commission must be given the broadest scope to investigate these issues.
