The petition of residents of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the ongoing debate around large scale asset sales. We believe the current debate fails to recognise the clear fact that the assets which are being touted for sale and outsourcing are the property of the Queensland public, not a plaything for the current or future governments.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to initiate the process necessary for a binding Referendum to be held in accordance with the requirements set out in the Referendums Act 1997, for a time within the 2014 calendar year, asking the people of Queensland the simple question:

Do you support the sale or partial sale (through equity partnerships) of state owned assets including: CS Energy, SunWater, Stanwell Corporation, Energex, Ergon Energy, Powerlink, Mt Isa Rail line, Gladstone Port Authority and Townsville Port?
