TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the Newman Government's intention to dispose of Queensland Health land at Mill Road, Edmonton - which has been strategically acquired for the provision of future hospital health and services for the greater Cairns area.

Selection of the existing site considered flood levels, regional growth, agreed road and public transport planning, sufficient space for greenfield development, and allows for future expansion. The existing land would provide a facility near where people live, where children go to school and is already designated for health use.

The sale of this public asset would be short-sighted as the planned facility for this land was to not only serve as a backup to Cairns Hospital as it would have the ability to operate during a cyclone, but on all other occasions would focus on early intervention and high quality integrated community care.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to retain this parcel of land on behalf of all people who live in the Cairns southern growth corridor.
