TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draw to the attention of the House the increasing danger of the intersection of FE Walker Street and Ashfield Road, Bundaberg. Many residents using the road to access Bundaberg Christian College experience daily danger crossing the intersection due to poor visibility and fast-moving traffic. Increasing numbers of unreported accidents occur and some motorists who fear the intersection are using an alternative, unsealed road to avoid it, including a young student who lost control of her vehicle and is critically injured in hospital. Traffic is growing as the school grows in enrolments and the local population increases. Many vehicles have young children as passengers, and their safety is of paramount importance.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to reconsider the priority of upgrading the intersection to a roundabout or traffic lights, and allocate funding as a matter of urgency for assessment and works to proceed before serious injuries and fatalities occur.
