TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the state of the Vines Creek Bridge on Harbour Road which has been partially closed by the Department of Main Roads due to deteriorating pylons. Vines Creek bridge previously allowed four lanes of traffic at 80 kilometres per hour along a vital access road for the Mackay Harbour. A result of the partial closure is the reduction of traffic flow to two lanes at 40 kilometres per hour.  The consequent reduction of carrying capacity of the Harbour Road which crosses the Vines Creek Bridge and is the prime access road to the Mackay Harbour has severe impact on the Mackay economy and impedes proper function of the Mackay Harbour, a port which is one of the five Priority Port Development Areas identified by the State Government. The Vines Creek bridge also services the main residential road route from the Slade Point community to the Mackay Central Business District. The partial closure of Vines Creek bridge is a significant inconvenience for Slade Point residents.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all acts necessary to ensure that Vines Creek Bridge is upgraded to a standard necessary for the necessary access to Mackay Harbour and Slade Point.
