Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need for the Newman Government to reverse its decision to close the Barrett Adolescent Centre that provides residential care and schooling for young people with serious mental health problems.

This unique Queensland centre has a thirty year history of providing recovery-orientated transition care between inpatient treatment and community based youth mental health services for children at high risk of self-harm.

Closing this centre poses not only a risk for these young people but also places more pressure on the community to try to provide professional support these young people require.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to reverse this decision and keep the Barrett Adolescent Centre open.
