Queensland Residents draws to the attention of the House:  The proposed closure of the Townsville Biosecurity Unit (Tropical and Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory – TAAHL). This laboratory services the aquaculture, fishing, beef and other livestock industries of North Queensland and provides vital frontline protection against diseases that have the potential to decimate these industries with potentially devastating health, economic and social impacts throughout Queensland and the rest of Australia.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to:  Retain the laboratory in Townsville and continue theses services at a premises suitable to the requirements of this vital work.
