Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that in relation to the Emergency Services Cadet Program:

1. The Premier and Minister for Police and Community Services have, without consultation, withdrawn funding and caused the program's unexpected closure.

2. The closure has devastated approximately 600 cadets, their families and made communities all over Queensland less safe.

3. The closure has only saved $1.3M in a $48,000M budget and lessened the future capacity of Queensland communities to respond to natural disasters and other emergencies.

4. For more than a decade, the cadet program has drawn praise from both sides of the House.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to pass a motion that calls on the LNP Government to restore and increase funding to the Emergency Services Cadet Program, one of the most successful youth programs in Queensland.
