TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
We, the undersigned residents of Queensland, draws to the attention of the House the following: that thousands of Queenslanders suffer from debilitating illnesses and diseases such as Parkinson’s, Diabetes, Cancer, Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Cord Injury; that Queenslanders support ethical stem cell research which has already shown encouraging potential to provide cures and therapies for these illnesses and diseases; that non-embryonic stem cells, which are also known as adult stem cells, have shown significant research progress without the immune rejection, cancer formation or ethical problems associated with destructive experimentation on embryonic humans. Your petitioners therefore request the House to focus its legislative support on adult stem cell research to find the cures and therapies necessary to treat the illness and diseases of suffering Queenslanders and that no taxpayers funds are used for destructive embryonic stem cell research.
