TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the high level of community concern in the Cairns region regarding the proposed cost and location of the Cairns Cultural Precinct development
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call for State funding of a ballot of Cairns Regional Council ratepayers to ascertain support for the following options.
(a) Proceed with the cultural precinct on waterfront land on a budget of $240 million, shared between Federal, State and Local Government; or
(b) Proceed with the cultural precinct on land currently occupied by the Cairns Port Authority building at a cost of $120 million shared between State and Federal Government.
