Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House the strong opposition by the people of North Queensland to the decision by the Department of Environment and Resource Management to force the removal of established recreational fishing huts from within and adjacent to the Halifax Bay Wetlands National Park and from any other State controlled land in coastal areas of North Queensland in the future.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to recognise the legitimate rights of North Queenslanders with established fishing huts to continue to enjoy a lawful recreational pastime that has long been a part of our lifestyle in North Queensland and protect those legitimate rights by directing DERM to refrain from any further action to force the removal of these established fishing huts in coastal areas.
