The petition of the residents of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the application for an extension to the liquor licence for Point Break Oceanfront Bar and Grill, within the Burleigh Pavilion, at 43 Goodwin Terrace, Burleigh Heads.

Although this application applies only to the Point Break premises, the building owner has been advertising an open-air, rooftop bar which will cater for up to 250 patrons, including weddings and parties. Local residents in this high-density residential area have had no opportunity whatsoever to voice their concerns about this development.  They do not wish to see any public use of the rooftop. Noise from an open-air rooftop bar will create undue annoyance, disturbance and inconvenience to local residents.  The development is in a high traffic area with limited carparking space and will contribute to increased congestion. The amenity, quiet and good order of this family-friendly locality will be greatly lessened, particularly late at night, by people under the influence of alcohol leaving the premises. This will impose an additional burden on our local police who are already taxed to the maximum in their commitment to maintaining public safety.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to note their strenuous objections to the application for an extension of the liquor licence for Point Break Oceanfront Bar and Grill.
