The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the 36 dog attacks in the last six weeks in the Hervey Bay area. These dog attacks are on adults, children and pets. It is inexcusable that the law, as it stands, allows dangerous dogs to be returned to their owners. Owners of dogs who have been warned must comply with stricter guidelines and harsher penalties for non compliance of dangerous dogs roaming free. The attacks in Hervey Bay have caused death to other dogs and animals.  We believe dogs that attack should be euthanized straight away.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to increase penalties on dog owners who have a dog that has been declared dangerous and to outlaw “repeat offender” breeds of dogs that are proven to be dangerous.
