TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of residents of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that:• the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme accommodation allowance has not increased in 21 years;• the current $30 a day allowance is totally and completely inadequate; • this inadequate allowance prevents some rural and remote patients from accessing treatment; and• the 8% difference in survival rate between Far North Queensland and South East Queensland is unacceptable. (Figure quoted on cancer survival rates reported by the Cancer Council of Queensland.)Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to substantially increase the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme accommodation allowance.
