TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
We the undersigned, being residents of Queensland, draw to the attention of the Minister that there has been an overwhelming need to upgrade the Cleveland-Redland Bay–Ziegenfusz Road intersection for several years. This is apparent to the thousands of motorists who use the intersection on a daily basis, and is substantiated by data available from government departments. It is apparent that there continues to be delays in the upgrade of this intersection despite the project being identified several years ago. There is a state school under construction on the corner of Ziegenfusz Road and Vintage Drive, a mere 700m from the intersection and an established private college is located less than 300m from this intersection. The state school will be operational for the 2010 year; and the private college has approval to expand their facilities in line with increased enrolments. This places additional burden on already-stressed infrastructure, commuters and residents. In an effort to minimise unacceptable risks and to placate growing concerns your petitioners therefore request that in the interests of public safety and community well-being, and in the absence of a signalised intersection being operational by the beginning to the 2010 school year; (1) manual traffic controllers be engaged to direct traffic around and through the Ziegenfusz Road – Cleveland-Redland Bay Road intersection at peak hours; and (2) the signalisation upgrade is considered urgent infrastructure and prioritised as such.
