TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of the residents of Warra and District of Queensland draws to the attention of the House:• The absence of a police officer in Warra since March 2009.• The section of the Warrego Highway in the Warra area is a known and recorded black spot and site of continuing fatalities and serious accidents.• The increase of heavy vehicle numbers on the Warrego Highway due to the expansion of coal and gas mining operations. (Already a 50% increase from 2004-2006).• The township of Warra is divided by the Warrego Highway. Residents feel there is a need to have a police presence at all times for safety reasons and crime prevention.• The nearest police station to Warra is situated approximately 40 kilometres away, where police officers already service a wide area.Your petitioners therefore request the House to:• Stop withdrawing emergency services from the Warra community.• Appoint a permanent police officer residing in the town of Warra forthwith.
