Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the Go Card system isn’t reliable, it is difficult to find an outlet to purchase one from and when you do finally get a Go Card you then get hit with fines when the machines don’t work properly due to no fault of the user. The recent price hike in fares also penalises students, many part-time/casual workers as well as low income families the hardest who can least afford it. It is unfair that those who rely on public transport are penalised the most. All of these failures of the Go Card system amounts to yet another added financial burden for Queenslanders at a very difficult time. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to immediately increase the number of outlets that can sell a Go Card including all railway stations and as a matter of urgency stop penalising Students, part-time/casual workers and low income families who rely on public transport by reducing the fare increases to CPI and to undertake to remove the fines when the machines are not working.
