TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of residents from Charters Towers and surrounding districts of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House: • The need for all dementia specific sufferers (themselves/family/guardian) to be given the right to choose where they spend their final days in nursing care. • That Eventide Aged Care Facility has a unit, fully fenced and capable of housing dementia specific patients and yet families have been forced to send their vulnerable loved ones to facilities hundreds of kilometres away. Your petitioners therefore request the House to take action to allow residents of Charters Towers and surrounding communities suffering from dementia to: • be allowed to 'Age in Place' according to the Aged Care definition of Aging in Place; and • give assurance that no dementia sufferer, in particular persons diagnosed as requiring secure dementia specific care, is to be displaced, and that the rights of such individuals be the same as any other citizen in the State of Queensland.
