TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that Southern Moreton Bay Island Residents are being discriminated against by not being part of the TransLink Network and thus paying considerably more for Public Transport than people on the mainland. We believe the cost involved is isolating families, self funded retirees and pensioners and also putting a greater burden on workers. As examples folk from Maroochydore can travel to Brisbane on a GoCard for $8.78. A distance of 103.73 kms. Folk from Bribie Island can travel to Brisbane and then on to Toowong by Brisbane ferry on a GoCard for $5.60. A distance of 84 kms. Bay Islands to Brisbane (ferry & bus) is 44.8 kms and we pay $11.36. this is soon to become $11.86. Your petitioners therefore request the House to cease this discrimination and make Bay Islands Transit System part of the TransLink Network.
