Electors of Greenslopes draws to the attention of the House; Sows in Queensland – and all across Australia – are confined in tiny metal stalls with no bedding or straw. They are forced to lie on wet concrete floors for months on end. They are denied enough room to turn around. These stalls have been banned or are being phased out in many countries where the cruelty of this kind of housing has been acknowledged. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to review the Code of Practice for pigs, with a view to banning the use of sows stalls and only allow group housing with bedding or free range conditions.
