Queensland Parliament's online broadcast, June 2007

In the past, to see Parliament in action, Queenslanders had to go to Parliament House in Brisbane. All Queenslanders can now view state parliamentary proceedings over the Internet following delivery of the second stage of a three stage project aimed at increasing people's access to Queensland's democratic processes.

Commencing in April 2003, the first stage of the Parliament's broadcasting project established an online audio broadcast of parliamentary proceedings.

The second stage, which began during the June 2007 budget sittings, provided an online video broadcast of the daily sittings of the Legislative Assembly.

The third stage of the project, to be implemented in the future, will include retrieval and archiving of parliamentary proceedings.

The online video broadcast has proven extremely popular since its launch in June, with over 4,700 connections in its first three days of operation.

The system delivers an external broadcast of parliamentary proceedings over the Internet, an audiovisual feed to the parliamentary media gallery, an internal broadcast on the closed TV network within the parliamentary precinct and an internal broadcast over the Parliament's computer data network.
