ESL Seminars

Services for AMEP Teachers

Parliamentary Education Services offers a limited number of workshops and provides online resources to support the teaching of the citizenship component of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP). Teachers are invited to bring groups of students (CSWEIII and above) to Parliament House for Parliamentary Education Activities.

Students may participate in the following activities while visiting Parliament House:

  1. a tour of Queensland’s magnificent Parliament House and an explanation of the Westminster system of parliament;
  2. a committee role play;
  3. a mock election using the Optional Preferential Voting method;
  4. a role play the legislative process using a specifically created mock Bill; and
  5. an address by the local Member of Parliament if available.

These workshops are free of charge and morning or afternoon tea is provided.

We understand that, because of distance and other reasons, it is not always convenient to visit Parliament House. You may like to download the resources below for use in the classroom. You will find other useful resources on the Classroom Activities pages of the Education section of this website.
