Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need for a reduction of the current 80kms/hour speed limit to 70kms/hour along a 2.4 kilometre stretch of road on Preston Boundary Road, Top Camp and Preston Boundary Road, Preston extending from the intersection of the New England Highway to past the Highgate Road intersection. Recent population growth throughout Gormans Gap, Panoramic Drive and Oakhill Place with new and young families now residing on this stretch of road has led to an increase in traffic through the area, a factor not considered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Accident history and near misses are not recorded by the Queensland Police Service unless there is bodily injury or property damage.

Residents are concerned this stretch of Preston Boundary Road is on a local school bus route with children boarding and exiting on the roadside, children and adults utilising the road and road shoulders for exercise (biking and walking) and multiple semi-concealed driveways having restricted views of oncoming traffic due to land contours, posing risk to residents accessing their driveways. At times thick fog reduces visibility, there is no formal curbside for bin collection leaving residents and property at risk of being struck by oncoming traffic and wildlife are frequently killed by vehicles.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to reduce the speed limit to 70kms/hour, taking into consideration the safety concerns of the residents and the unrecorded speeding of vehicles including heavy construction trucks and motorbikes witnessed by residents.
