Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that seatbelt infringement notices contain small images that are unclear and of poor quality. There is a note on these notices that TMR “uses higher quality images for processing and evidentiary purposes” creating a double standard. Yet new fines of $1,078 for a seatbelt offence could accommodate the cost of A4 images of evidentiary  quality being sent out to vehicle owners.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to that in the case where a driver or passenger is detected as not wearing a seatbelt properly adjusted or fastened that the Minister of Transport and Main Roads instructs that all images of the offence in evidentiary quality in A4 format are sent to the vehicle owner with the infringement notice and that such images of evidentiary quality can be downloaded in JPG or similar commonly used format.
