TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that in 2015 Townsville City Council (TCC) Inspector John Waetford found asbestos in illegal pits on Toolakea beaches and adjacent Halifax Bay mudflats. He then issued Remediation Notice under the Queensland Environmental Protection Act plus a related Show Cause notice. There was evidence (admissions) of illegal demolitions of asbestos buildings and the disposal of contaminated material. Then TCC soon after closed down these orders before trying to transfer the case to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland. In a 10/2/2017 memo (233410) a senior public servant advised his department not to accept this case.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to ensure an investigation into the demolition and disposal of the above contaminated material and ensure scrutiny of a related application for ''major project' status of a development and any agreements between state and local government and foreign owned entities.
