Oversight of the Office of the Information Commissioner - 2019

Overview

Under the Right to Information Act 2009, the committee's functions are to:

  • monitor and review the performance by the Information Commissioner of its functions;

  • report to the Assembly on any matter concerning the Information Commissioner, its functions or the performance of its functions that the committee considers should be drawn to the Assembly's attention;

  • decide, in consultation with the Information Commissioner, the statistical information agencies and Ministers are to give to the Commissioner for reports to the committee under section 131;

  • examine each annual report tabled in the Assembly under the Act and, if appropriate, to comment on any aspect of the report and to make recommendations;

  • examine each strategic review report tabled in the Assembly under the Act and, if appropriate, to comment on any aspect of the report and to make recommendations;

  • report to the Assembly any changes to the functions, structures and procedures of the office of the Ombudsman the committee considers desirable for the more effective operation of the Act.

As part of its oversight functions, the committee held a public hearing with the Office of the Information Commissioner on 25 February 2019.
