Referral
The inquiry was referred to the committee by the Legislative Assembly on 7 June 2012. The terms of reference (below) required the committee to report to the Legislative Assembly by 28 February 2013. This was extended to 28 May 2013 and the committee reported on 17 May 2013.
Terms of Reference
- That the Health and Community Services Committee inquire into and report on Queensland's chronic, frail and palliative care services.
- That, in undertaking this inquiry, the committee should consider:• the capacity and future needs of these services (including children and adolescents palliative care)
• the effectiveness, efficiency and adequacy of palliative, frail and chronic care services
• examine opportunities for reforms to improve collaboration and cooperation between chronic, disability and other health services, and
• consideration of segmenting the current Home and Community Service system based on age of the client, needs of the client, their carer and the providers. - Further, that the committee take public submissions and consult with key industry groups, carers, health workers and relevant experts.
- The committee is to report to the Legislative Assembly by 28 May 2013 (as agreed by the Legislative Assembly on 20 March 2013).

Public hearings and consultation
The committee held public hearings on Wednesday 22 August 2012 and Friday 24 August 2012 at Parliament House, Brisbane, where it heard from invited witnesses. A transcript of each of these hearings is now available under the 'Related Publications' tab. Public hearings were also held in Mt Isa on 4 February 2013 and Townsville on 5 February 2013.
